Description: The police, fire and ambulance Emergency Services (3ES) in England, Scotland and Wales use a common radio system called Airwave for critical voice and narrowband data , and use commercial networks for broadband data communications. As Airwave contracts begin to expire, the Programme will replace the current arrangement with an integrated voice and broadband data service based on an enhanced commercial mobile network called the Emergency Services Network (ESN). ESN will provide public safety functionality, coverage, availability and security but not necessarily in the same way as Airwave. ESN strategic objectives are: • Meeting Requirements (Better) • Improved Flexibility (Smarter) • More Affordable (Cheaper)
